Reading While Writing--Undue Influences?

I'm over at the Castles and Guns blog today, talking about my towering TBR pile and how reading other people's novels when I'm actively writing my own can unconsciously influence me.

Do you read only outside your genre when you're writing? Or not read at all? Or does it not matter?

  1. I read outside the genre, otherwise I find it starts to influence my WIP!

  2. I read everything and anything. Whatever good book is within reach. I don't find it influences what I write, except if I read a really bad book it motivates me to write cause I think 'I can do better than that!' In contrast, if I read a really amazing book, it does depress me as I think 'I'll never write anything that good!' Either way, I love to read as much as I love to write. The two go hand in hand for me.

  3. Rather nice blog you've got here. Thanks the author for it. I like such themes and everything connected to them. I would like to read more on that blog soon.
