Thanks to everyone who stopped by last Thursday to read part one of my novelette Chenoire, set in the world of my urban fantasy series that kicks off April 2012 with Tor Books.
(The first book in the series is Royal Street, and the second is River Road. You can read about them by clicking the "My Books" tab above.)
Today, I have the second half of Chenoire--the complete story is now available at the "Free Reads" tab above or by clicking the link below. I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it and let me know what you think! Chenoire is set in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, right outside New Orleans, and it revolves around the Delachaise family -- specifically, the youngest of the Delachaise sons, Rene.
(Now, if you're from Southeast Louisiana, you'll know that Rene is pronounced with the heavy stress on the "ren" and not the "nae" and Delachaise is pronounced "della-shay.") Rene and his twin brother Robert ("row-bear") are prominent characters in River Road, in which the River Styx suddenly starts bleeding into the Mississippi River just south of New Orleans. This, as you might guess, is not a good thing.
Just to show how reality plays into the story (in addition to the all-too-real BP oil spill), my house in New Orleans was located just off Delachaise Street, about ten blocks from the river. And while the settlement at Chenoire doesn't exist, I have been lost in the wilds of St. Bernard Parish quite a few times, once driving past Delacroix until the road completely fizzled out and I got spooked by a dead, skinned nutria (think ginormous rat with orange teeth) nailed to a post next to the narrow road.
Bienvenue à Chenoire. Happy reading!
