YA Review & Contest: SIRENSONG by Jenna Black

Jenna Black’s YA series about half-fae Dana takes a dramatic turn in Sirensong as Dana gets hauled before the queen of the Seelie Court. And you know that is just never a good thing, especially when the Erlking, the sexy beast of Wild Hunt fame, has already marked you as his. As always, a contest for a copy of Sirensong. Read on...

THE OFFICIAL BLURB: When Dana is invited to Faerie to be officially presented at the Seelie Court, it’s no easy decision. After all, everyone knows Titania, the Seelie Queen, wants her dead. But Titania claims not to be the one behind the death threats; and her son, Prince Henry, makes the decision a whole lot easier when he suggests Dana might be arrested for (supposedly) conspiring with her aunt Grace to usurp the Seelie throne. So she and her father better do as they're told…
The journey through Faerie is long – and treacherous. Dana thought it would be a good idea to have friends along, but her sort-of-boyfriend, Ethan, and her bodyguard’s son, Keane, just can’t seem to get along, and Kimber’s crush on Keane isn’t making things any easier. When a violent attack separates Dana from their caravan, the sexy Erlking saves her just in the nick of time… and makes it clear that he hasn’t given up on making her his own.
Arriving at Titania’s beautiful palace should be a relief. But Dana is soon implicated in an assassination attempt against Titania’s granddaughter, and is suddenly a fugitive, forced to leave her father behind as she and her friends flee for their lives. Will she be able to prove her innocence before the forces of the Seelie Court – or, worse, the Erlking – catch up with her? And will she save her father before he pays the ultimate price in her stead?

MY THOUGHTS: I usually either love or hate books about Faerie and the fae world, and this series from Jenna Black falls firmly on the LOVE side. There are no schools, no new boys in schools, no glittering heroes, no...well, you get the picture. What we do have is a fresh spin on Faerie and the Erlking, a really likeable, gutsy teenage heroine who has some sucky things to deal with—her alcoholic, immature mom, for one thing, not to mention her kind of unfathomable Fae father with political ambitions.
There’s great sexual tension between Dana and her guys—Keane, her fighting instructor who cares more about her than she admittedly does about him; Ethan, the one that makes her heart go pitter-patter; and the growlingly sexy Erlking, who’s just so bad you know he’s gotta be tempting (in an older, probably going to kill you and suck the soul out of you kind of way).
But even with all that drama and tension, Jenna Black infuses her characters with a minimum of angst and hand-wringing and a lot of wry wit and subtle emotion. Just a lovely YA series.

  4. Thanks for the chance to win an ARC. I haven't read many books that have the Fae in it, but I hope to change that. If I had to pick one then it would be the Sookie Stackhouse series.

  7. My favorite books about the fae would have to be the Melissa Mayhue Daughters of the Glen series. There's good fae, bad fae, and time traveling men in kilts. What's not to love?
