YA Featured Book and Autographed Copy

How about a special Sunday featured book this week? We're looking at a new YA paranormal called Bound, by debut author C.K. Bryant. Like many good YA books, it's a coming-of-age story with a paranormal twist. Read on for a chance to win an autographed copy from the author!

ABOUT THE BOOKWhen a photo shoot ends in tragedy, Kira discovers her best friend, Lydia, has been keeping a secret. Knowing the truth, and accepting it, will change Kira’s life forever and thrust her into a world of ancient curses, magical objects, and savage enemies. What happens next will challenge everything Kira knows about her world, herself and the shape-shifting warrior she’s falling in love with. No longer the timid mouse her mother accused her of being, but a woman who finds the mental and physical strength to endure and survive. BOUND is a heroic tale of true friendship, infinite sacrifice and untamed love.

MY THOUGHTS: First, an admission. I usually avoid small-press books for review because my editing standards are pretty rigid and a lot of "indie" and small-press books just don't pass muster. Bound isn't one of them--it's well written and edited, and I can recommend it as an interesting addition to the paranormal YA genre. Author Christine Bryant draws on a broad swath of mythology and history to tell Kira's story. Thrust out of her own normal life--where she worries about things like classes and how to climb that darn rope in gym class--Kira learns that the people she thought she knew are something else entirely (like that her BFF Lydia has an extra soul floating around--yikes), and that she has a role to play in a world she didn't know existed. A good YA read to check out!

Want to win a signed copy of Bound? You know the routine--four entries possible: one for comment (tell me the best YA you've read recently--I'd have to go with Jus Accardo's Touch), one for blog follow, one for Twitter follow @Suzanne_Johnson, and one for Tweet or Retweet of the contest. Drawing will take place one week from today. Now....go!

  19. My love for paranormals is thanks to young adult books (before there even was a YA section, I think) so it would be nice to go back to my roots :) It's been awhile since I read a YA book but Exposure by Therese Fowler which as a strong YA element was amazing.
