TBR Friday: Blowout Sci-Fi and Fantasy Giveaway

Time to pare down the TBR pile! I have five duplicate titles I haven't had a chance to read for review yet, so I'm passing them on to you. One winner wins all five...so get busy and enter! Note: These are all science fiction and fantasy titles...I'm putting together a YA and paranormal romance/urban fantasy pack for later :-)

Here's what's included in the prize pack:

In the Lion's Mouth, by Michael Flynn
It’s a big Spiral Arm, and the scarred man, Donavan buigh, has gone missing in it, upsetting the harper Mearana's plans for a reconciliation between her parents. Bridget ban, a Hound of the League, doubts that reconciliation is possible or desirable; but nonetheless has dispatched agents to investigate the disappearance.  The powerful Ravn Olafsdottr, a Shadow of the Names, slips into Clanthompson Hall to tell mother and daughter of the fate of Donovan buigh. In the Long Game between the Confederation of Central Worlds and the United League of the Periphery, Hound and Shadow are mortal enemies; yet a truce descends between them so that the Shadow may tell her tale. There is a struggle in the Lion’s Mouth, the bureau that oversees the Shadows—a clandestine civil war of sabotage and assassination between those who would overthrow Those of Name and the loyalists who support them. And Donovan, one-time Confederal agent, has been recalled to take a key part, willingly or no.

The Third Section, by Jasper Kent
Russia 1855. After forty years of peace in Europe, war rages. In the Crimea, the city of Sevastopol is besieged. In the north, Saint Petersburg is blockaded. But in Moscow there is one who needs only to sit and wait -- wait for the death of an aging tsar, and for the curse upon his blood to be passed to a new generation. As their country grows weaker, a brother and sister -- each unaware of the other's existence -- must come to terms with the legacy left them by their father. In Moscow, Tamara Valentinovna Lavrova uncovers a brutal murder and discovers that it is not the first in a sequence of similar crimes, merely the latest, carried out by a killer who has stalked the city since 1812. And in Sevastopol, Dmitry Alekseevich Danilov faces not only the guns of the combined armies of Britain and France, but must also make a stand against creatures that his father had thought buried beneath the earth, thirty years before

Singularity: Star Carrier, by Ian Douglas
There is an unseen power in the universe—a terrible force that was dominating the galaxy tens of thousands of years before the warlike Sh'daar were even aware of the existence of Sol and its planets. As humankind approaches the Singularity, when transcendence will be achieved through technology, contact will be made. In the wake of the near destruction of the solar system, the political powers on Earth seek a separate peace with an inscrutable alien life form that no one has ever seen. But Admiral Alexander Koenig, the hero of Alphekka, has gone rogue, launching his fabled battlegroup beyond the boundaries of Human Space against all orders. With Confederation warships in hot pursuit, Koenig is taking the war for humankind’s survival directly to a mysterious omnipotent enemy.

A Kingdom Beseiged: Book One of the Chaoswar Saga, by Raymond E. Feist
A Kingdom Besieged is the first in a new trilogy that brings back Pug—first introduced in Feist’s classic debut novel, Magician, and now Midkemia’s most powerful sorcerer—who faces a major magical cataclysm that forces him to question everything he’s ever held as true and dear…including the loyalty of his beloved son Magnus.

A Crown Imperiled: Book Two of the Chaoswar Saga, by Raymond E. Feist
War rages in Midkemia but behind the chaos there is disquieting evidence of dark forces at work. Jim Dasher's usually infallible intelligence network has been cleverly dismantled; nowhere is safe. He feels that the world is coming apart at the seams and is helpless to protect his nation. Quiet palace coups are underway in Roldem and Rillanon; and King Gregory of the Isles has yet to produce an heir. In each kingdom a single petty noble has risen from obscurity to threaten the throne. Lord Hal of Crydee and his great friend Ty Hawkins, champion swordsman of the Masters' Court, are entrusted with the task of smuggling Princess StephanĂ© and her lady-in-waiting, the lovely but mysterious Lady Gabriella, out of Roldem to a place of greater safety. But is there any safe haven to be found? Meanwhile, Hal's younger brothers Martin and Brendan are attempting to hold the strategic city of Ylith against an onslaught of Keshian Dog Soldiers, and a mysterious force from beneath the sea. The Kingdom might lose Crydee and recover; but if Ylith falls, all is lost. An unknown player appears to be orchestrating these conflicts. Can Pug and the Conclave of Shadows track down this source before Midkemia is destroyed

Want to win? Just tell me your favorite fantasy or sci-fi series…TV or book. For fantasy, I’d have to go with an old classic, Lord of the Rings (and the movies were awesome). For sci-fi…I’m not a huge space opera book fan, but I loved the old “Star Trek” TV series. You?

As always, four entries possible: one entry for leaving a comment, one more if you follow the blog, one for following me on Twitter: @Suzanne_Johnson, and one for Tweeting or RT’ing the contest. Fly away!

  18. I have so many favourite series (both in books and TV) thatit's a bit frightening...they do tend to wax and wane due to my current interests or moods.

For the fantasy ones I'd probably have to go with Lord of the Rings for the books since it's series which got me into fantasy (and that is the whole mythology and not just the trilogy) and the TV fantasy would be the Buffy/Angel-verse :)

And the Science Fiction series...uff...that's a hard one. Books: probably the Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold (although I can't seem to get started on the final book).
TV: Star Trek of course :) I've alternately hated and loved every one of it's variations :)

    thanks!
