I'm offering something a little different today--a copy of a brand new (as in the ink is still wet) anthology from a group of Alabama authors, called SUMMER GOTHIC. And, yes, I have a story in it!
Back in the fall and winter, the call went out from Birmingham-area author and editor Jared Millet for stories from Alabama authors that had something to do with both summer and ghosts. Beyond that, the topic was wide open.
The result, Summer Gothic, was released on March 20. You can read a bit more about it HERE.
My local writer's group took on the challenge and four of us have stories in the anthology...all very different, but fun. There are 22 stories in all, and I can't wait to read the rest of them! Mine is very, very different from my normal writing, in that it's a (mostly) true story set in the years just after the Civil War and is a true story. At least the characters in it are real, and some of the basic events. It's about my great-grandfather Frank Smith, and his father, Daniel and is called "All the Good I Could." It's a story I've been wanting to write for a long time and just never had the right venue for it.
I'll give away a signed copy of SUMMER GOTHIC to one commenter. So...what are you waiting for, a ghost or something? Do you have a ghost story from your own life? I have several, which might explain a lot...You know the routine. One entry for comment. Extra entries for blog followers, Twitter followers @Suzanne_Johnson, and for Tweeting or Retweeting. Boo!

Oooh...scary ghost stories! Count me in. The closest thing I have to a ghost story is after watching The Ring in the theater, as I was leaving the parking lot I still swear I saw a little girl in a white dress standing on the street corner.

Ooh! This anthology sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have a ghost story from your old stomping grounds in New Orleans. We stayed at the Bourbon Orleans once. Had no idea it was "haunted." My dad saw a little girl run through his room and thought it was his imagination. Later we heard there were ghosts there. My dad is not one to believe in stuff like that, but to this day, he swears the little girl was some kind of apparition. CREEPY!
I'm a GFC follower, twitter follower, I tweeted the link. Including this comment, I think that's a total of 4 entries.
Have a great weekend!
Ooh I love a good gothic story!

Well, I would want it solely for your story, but I do like books with ghosts in them, as long as it are no scary poltergeist things. And I am very happy not to have had any ghostly experiences myself.

When I was a child a ghost lived in the walls of my bedroom. He would scratch at the walls to communicate. And no: whatever my parents tried to tell me, it was not a nest of birds!
