After
a couple of crazy weeks filled with new releases, it’s kinda quiet this week,
mostly with YA paranormals. Seems like I’m kind of drawn to White Horse this
week, mostly because of the fab cover. (Speaking of which, go over to The
Quillery and vote for Royal Street as debut cover for the month!)
What
do you want to read? Leave a comment and tell me, and I’ll draw one name to win
his or her choice. International, as always. And if the book is in a series you
haven’t started, you can always pick the first one in the series instead.
It is the year 2129, and fame is all that matters. Susan and her friends are celebutantes. Their lives
are powered by media awareness, fed by engineered meals, and underscored by
cynicism. Everyone has a rating; the more viewers who ID you, the better. So
Susan and her almost-boyfriend Derlock cook up a surefire plan: the nine of
them will visit a Mars-bound spaceship and stow away. Their survival will be a
media sensation, boosting their ratings across the globe. There’s only one
problem: Derlock is a sociopath. Young Adult.
After Meredith’s girlfriend commits suicide, she abandons art
school and goes home to Washington, D.C., intending to kill herself. But a
chance street encounter leads her to create a painting that acts as a magical
passage through which the young, 19th-century French poet Arthur Rimbaud
emerges, and both their lives are changed. Young Adult.
Eve,
a runaway, finds a new job at a coffee shop on the outskirts of Tuscon. When
she’s approached by two wealthy teens who claim she bears an uncanny
resemblance to their missing cousin Aurora, her life takes a turn for the dark
and mysterious. Young Adult.
Thirty-year-old
Zoe wants to go back to college. That’s why she cleans cages and floors at
GeneTech. If she can keep her head down, do her job, and avoid naming the mice
she’ll be fine. Her life is calm—until the President of the United States
announces that humans are no longer a viable species. Her boyfriend Nick, fearing he’s contracted the virus, leaves
for Greece. When Zoe discovers she’s pregnant, she treks across the world to
find Nick and reunite her growing family. On her journey, Zoe comes to see that
humanity is defined not by genetic code, but by soulful actions and choices.
Grimalkin, the Witch Assassin (The Last Apprentice, Book
12), by Joseph Delaney (April 17, Greenwillow)
One witch is the most feared, the most ruthless, and the most
deadly of all the witches in the county. If she hunts for you, she will find
you. If you have crossed her, you don’t stand a chance. She is the witch
assassin, and her name is Grimalkin. Grimalkin’s one alliance is with Tom Ward,
the Spook’s apprentice. With Tom, she plans to rid the world of the most
terrifying evil, the Fiend, who once did her great wrong. For the first time,
fans of the Last Apprentice series will hear the story from Grimalkin’s side,
as she is hunted herself by creatures of darkness set on revenge. Grimalkin has
never been defeated. But can she survive an enemy created for the sole purpose
of destroying her? Young Adult.
Violet
kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her
family and her boyfriend. Until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered
Violet’s talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now,
as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and
dangerously attractive Rafe—it’s Violet’s job to help those who have been
murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body
of a college girl killed by “the girlfriend collector” she is determined to
solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new
“relationship,” and Violet may have caught his eye. Young Adult.
El Sombra’s final battle against the forces of the Ultimate Reich. The Locomotive Man in a showdown
with cosmic science on the prairies of the Old West. Jackson Steele defends the 25th Century against the massed armies of the Space Satan. A duel of minds in the
mystery palaces of One Million AD. This is steam-pulp sci-fi, from the Big Bang
to the End Of Time—eleven tales from Pax Britannia’s past, present and distant future combine into
one saga set to shake the universe to its foundations—or destroy it!
When
Marshall and Elyse wake up in each other’s arms with zero memory of how they
got there or who they are, it’s the start of a long journey through their
separate pasts and shared future. Terrified by their amnesia, the two make a
pact to work together to find the answers that could jog their missing
memories. As they piece together clues, they discover they’re in the idyllic
mountain resort town of Summer Falls, where everyone seems mysteriously happy,
but as Marshall and Elyse quickly learn, darkness lurks beneath the town’s
perfect facade. Not only is the town haunted by sinister ghosts, but none of
its living inhabitants retain bad memories of anything. Young Adult.
Donovan
Graham, part-time bartender, full-time occult scholar, has just graduated
college with a master's in philosophical hermeneutics, having completed his
thesis on the Faustus legend. Now, on the recommendation of a friend and
mentor, Donovan has begun helping the NYPD investigate a particularly gruesome
series of murders, in which the victims have been artfully arranged to resemble
the signs of the Zodiac. Is it a serial killer Donovan and the NYPD seek, or is
something deeper and more sinister taking place?
As
always, four entries possible: +1 for comment to tell me what book (any book)
you want, +1 for blog follow, +1 for Twitter follow @Suzanne_Johnson, and +1
for a Tweet or RT about the contest. This contest is international. Contests
end at midnight CDT U.S., and winners are announced on Sunday’s blog. It’s the
responsibility of the winner to contact me with their mailing info. Books unclaimed
after a month will go into a general giveaway pile.
Now….go!

Nothing really stands out this week but I'll try for Ghost Flower.

The Last Echo (The Body Finder, Book 3), by Kimberly Derting. I am going to Anderson's in Naperville on Thursday for a book signing. "Dark Days of Winter Tour". Kimberly Derting, Jill Hathway and Dan Wells. Plan to get a signed copy then. April is a big book month for me.

Hmmm... I'm going with White Horse as well. I'm not a big YA fan. And I already voted for Royal Street for best cover!

Hmm I am going to skip this contests, as nothing is appealing to me. If I won, I probably would never read the book, so I hope you can make some one else truly happy with it :)
