Before I get to Reader's Choice, we have today’s stops on the River Road
virtual tour. Please see the column at right for the full list of prizes!
***Heaven help us all, but Jean Lafitte is doing an interview at BadassBook Reviews today. He will also be responding to comments, so just be warned. I have no control over the man. In addition to entry for the $25 gift card, commenters are also up for a signed copy of River Road (choice of US or UK cover).
***I’m being interviewed at What the Cat Read – find out who my current favorite
character is! Enter for the official gour prizes, including the Kindle or Nook; a comment also will enter you for
the $25 GC and a mystery book.
***Finally, a separate giveaway is being held at Pure Textuality for a copy of River Road--head on over and enter to win a copy! Ginny did a great review last week, and now they're sponsoring a giveaway (even if you have the book, it would make a nice holiday gift, right?).

And now…on to this week’s Reader’s Choice Contest….
It’s a light release week this week because of
the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States. Still, a few interesting things
from which to choose…and because it’s Thanksgiving and I want you to have something
to be thankful for, for this week only, pick ANY book, ANY genre, ANY release
date, and if your name is picked…it’s yours! It does not have to be from this
new release list.
What do you want to read? As always, leave a comment
telling me the book you’d most like to win, and maybe random.org will make your
wishes come true. If the book is part of a series, you can request the first
book in the series. Your choice of print or
digital unless otherwise stated. International? Of course! As long as Book Depository
delivers to your country, please enter.
Here we go….
Jillian Cardiff came to this
remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her.
Instead, she rescues, and falls for, a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of
anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems
like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. He’s also the kind of man who can
be very dangerous. Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian’s
life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian’s neighbors are killed,
and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he’s putting Jillian
in danger. And once it’s revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman
responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest
challenge of all.
Nightmare (Jack Nightingale
#3), by Stephen
Leather (November
20, 47North)
What goes around, comes around.
Jack Nightingale learned that as a cop and discovered that it was just as true
in the world of the supernatural. His life changed forever on the day he failed
to stop a young girl from throwing herself to her death. Ever since, he’s been
haunted by thoughts that he could have done more to save her. Now her cries for
help are louder than ever. Is she trapped in eternal torment? Can Nightingale
put things right? Or are the forces of darkness torturing and deceiving him in
order to gain the ultimate prize: his soul? Nightingale will have to face down
the powers of the police, south London gangs and Hell itself to find out. And
evil is closer than he thinks. U.S. release.
Darwen Arkwright and the Insidious
Bleck, by A.J.
Hartley(November 21, Razorbill)
Young Adult. Eleven-year-old Darwen Arkwright’s life changed forever when he
first set foot in Silbrica, the wondrous and magical world beyond the mirror.
Now, he and his friends Rich and Alexandra, the Peregrine Pact, must journey to
Costa Rica to save a boy who’s been stolen by the Insidious Bleck, a giant
tentacled creature that leaves destruction in its wake. But what at first
seemed to be a single kidnapping turns out to be an elaborate conspiracy that
threatens the very future of our world. And this time, old allies can’t be
trusted, and the danger runs deeper than Darwen could have ever imagined.
Steampunk: An Illustrated History
of Fantastical Fiction, Fanciful Film and Other Victorian Visions,
by Brian J. Robb,James
P. Blaylock and Jonathan Clements (November 17, Voyageur Press)
Steampunk is the hottest science
fiction counterculture, alive in fantasy novels, films, arts and crafts,
fashion, comic books, music, computer games, even architecture. Enter a world
of Victorian technology, where steam power meets space travel. From Jules Verne
and H. G. Wells to Alan Moore, Hayao Miyazaki, and Philip Pullman, the genre
has captured imaginations around the globe. Here’s the first grand, illustrated
history of the counterculture movement in a book fittingly stylish in its
design, package, and artwork. From the fastest dirigibles and steam-powered ray
guns to fashionistas Lady Gaga and Alexander McQueen, the whole story of the
gaslight romance is here.
Eli Monpress is clever, he’s
determined, and he’s in way over his head. First rule of thievery: don’t be a
hero. When Eli broke the rules and saved the Council Kingdoms, he thought he
knew the price, but resuming his place as the Shepherdess’s favorite isn’t as
simple as bowing his head. Benehime is setting in motion a plan that could
destroy everything she was created to protect, and even Eli’s charm might not
be enough to stop her. But Eli Monpress always has a plan, and he’s pulling in
every favor he can think of to make it work, including the grudging help of the
Spirit Court’s new Rector, Miranda Lyonette. But with the world in panic, the
demon stirring, and the Lord of Storms back on the hunt, it’s going to take
more than luck and charm to pull Eli through this time.
Elemental, by Antony John (November 21, Dial)
Young Adult. A lost colony is reborn in this fantasy adventure set in the
near future. Sixteen-year-old Thomas has always been an outsider. The first
child born without the power of an Element, earth, water, wind or fire, he has
little to offer his tiny, remote Outer Banks colony. Or so the Guardians would
have him believe. In the wake of an unforeseen storm, desperate pirates kidnap
the Guardians, intent on claiming the island as their own. Caught between the
plague-ridden mainland and the advancing pirates, Thomas and his friends fight
for survival in the battered remains of a mysterious abandoned settlement. But
the secrets they unearth will turn Thomas’ world upside-down, and bring to
light not only a treacherous past but also a future more dangerous than he can
possibly imagine.
